
Licensed Asbestos Assessor
The NSW WHS Regulation requires an asbestos assessor licence to undertake air monitoring, clearance inspections or the issuing of clearance certificates for class A (friable) asbestos removal work.
In the ACT, only a licensed asbestos assessor can undertake asbestos identification, risk assessment, air monitoring, clearance inspections and the issuing of clearance certificates.

When a Licensed Asbestos Assessor is Required?
in NSW, a licensed asbestos assessor is mandatory in the following situations:
- Asbestos air monitoring during Friable asbestos removal – asbestos air monitoring is mandatory for all friable asbestos removal work (background monitoring before removal, control monitoring during removal, clearance air monitoring prior to dismantling an enclosure and final clearance monitoring before re-occupancy of the area. This must be undertaken by a licensed asbestos assessor
- Asbestos clearance inspection, clearance monitoring and issuing the asbestos clearance certificate for Friable asbestos removal work
- Inspection sampling and assessment of disturbed or uncontained friable asbestos (eg. loose fill insulation)
- Soil contamination by friable asbestos or asbestos fines – inspection, sampling and assessment.
